Action for Development of Grassroots Communities (ADEGCO)

Action for Development of Grassroots Communities (ADEGCO) Logo

The Action for Development of Grassroots Communities (ADEGCO) is grassroots non-profit registered with Bukedea District Local Government Community Development Department as a Community Based Organization (CBO). It was founded in 2017 and the current offices are located on plot 11, along Malinga road in Bukedea town, Bukedea District located in Teso sub region, Eastern Uganda.

Our story traces back in 2017 when Joseph Obore after graduating with a degree in Development Studies from Makerere University mobilized fellow youths living in Bukedea District in identifying pressing challenges through a community needs assessment study and together, co-create innovative solutions. The findings showed that children, the youth and women are the most disadvantaged, at risk and vulnerable to existing challenges such as: youth unemployment, gender & economic inequalities, low gains in agriculture and the negative associated effects of climate change. It was against this background that the Action for Development of Grassroots Communities (ADEGCO) was formed as a hub for innovating solution to the above identified challenges leveraging the potential of young people (children & the youth) and women.

ADEGCO works with and for these vulnerable groups of people in designing and implementing innovative and problem-solving projects for improvement in education and skills training, agriculture and climate justice.

ADEGCO’s Theory of Change (ToC) or philosophy is the development principle of endoginity which states that; by integration, inclusion, involvement and empowerment of underprivileged, vulnerable, and disadvantaged group of people (children, the youth and women) can develop holistically and contribute to the development of their communities.

ADEDCO therefore works by the principle of: There is nothing about children, the youth and women without them. (Nothing about us without us.)

By empowering the most disadvantaged groups of people with practical skills and knowledge which builds on their capacities, we can create sustainable/long-lasting change through generations.
The idea to form ADEGCO is also attributed to the need to realize and achieve the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) at community level, Vision 2040 and complement in achieving the National Development Plan of Uganda (NDP, 2020).
